BOSE is amazing.

Once, I was in NY for work and staying at the Sofitel hotel.
They had a BOSE radio alarm in the room.

That thing was playing low volume Jazz, as a wake up alarm, and was very l slowly creeping up in volume. I had drank like a @$$%% the night before and thought I was dreaming of heaven or something, once the thing went off…

Best damn sound system out there… BOSE

I apologize in advance but anytime Bose receives praise my ears start ringing. I am going to have to respectfully disagree.

Bose has great marketing, and while they are sometimes better than a lot of other consumer name brands like Sony, Polk, Pioneer, etc., they are far from the best sound system. Just go to an audiophile forum and start talking about how your Bose speakers are the best and you'll get laughed out of there. I also find them to be overpriced for what you get. However, consistently good marketing strategies and perceived "innovation" have convinced consumers that they are leading the pack in sound quality.

You can get a lot better speakers from a brand like KEF, Paradigm, or Klipsch, and at fairly comparable costs. There are honestly a hundred brands out there I'd buy over Bose. This isn't to say they're BAD speakers, they've just got a reputation for being a lot better than they are.

A while back I got heavy into the audiophile thing since my uncle had a $40,000 sound system in his home theater and it completely changed my view on what great sound is. I'm going to assume most of us here are not capable of affording such setups, but there are certainly cheaper ways to get close to that sound. A little research goes a long way – but at the end of the day your sound is only as good as your source. Most games compress audio files and suffer compression/distortion which could potentially be noticeable on higher end systems. Audio is generally mixed/mastered for the lowest common denominator so people with cheap dollar store speakers can still get a passable sound from them.

So before I hop down from my high horse I just want to encourage you all to do some research before buying Bose. If you are in the market for a nice HT, let me know and I can probably help you out! :)
