BT mentioned this in teamspeak last night, so I thought I'd post the article I read about the ship. It really is quite cool: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/10/the-navys-newest-warship-is-powered-by-linux/

I thought this was funny/interesting in regard to why the server rooms were designed the way they are: "when I was aboard the USS Iowa, we had to shut down non-tactical systems before the guns were fired because the shock and vibration would crash systems hard."

In fairness, I believe the Iowa was a battleship and those things are nuts. When they fired the entire ship listed.

That's just nuts, I imagine experiencing that the first few times would be unnerving.

My first duty station was a carrier and you rarely felt listing on it but I went to a frigate from there and I'm just really glad I don't get sea-sick.
