Character designer Akihiko Yoshida has left Square Enix.
Yoshida-san’s works include Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XIV, and Bravely Default. It’s been said that he will be working on the sequel to Bravely Default, Bravely Second. It’s unknown at this time whether or not he’ll still be involved with FFXIV in a freelance capacity or not.
Looking back, starting with Tactics in 98, I - and I imagine most of you - have basically grown up with his art over the last 15 years. Even longer if you played Ogre Battle when it was released ( My exposure was first FFT)
And I remember when this image was released as a teaser image for ffxii - I basically just drooled.
Edit: also Gallifrey is probably right, it's not like he's dead or quitting art altogether, but still made me nostalgic/bummed to hear.
It does, a lot of artist visions for future cities involve towering buildings and flying vehicles/airships. Like the illustrations from King's Dream of New York (not illustrated by Moses King I don't think, just published. Harry Pettit illustrated.) There was an early 1900's French futurist with similar drawings too, though I can't remember his name for the life of me right now.
