I wonder if the raid size is going to receive a bump by the end of heavensward. I know they said they didn't plan to about 6 months ago, but as they add new classes, I wonder if it would make sense to increase the raid size to 12. 1 new tank slot, 1 new healer slot, and 2 dps slots.

At the very least its going to have be considered for the second expansion, as you will run into a scenario where only 1/2 the jobs in the game will be in the raid. While this could create some interesting combinations if kept the same, it creates a nightmare for boss balancing if you have to create a boss that can accommodate for all possible combinations.

Would you welcome a raid size increase? I don't think I would mind it, though it feels like getting 8 people on is hard enough without adding more.

I really don't know what they will do on that end. I personally wouldn't like to see the raid size go up. I think eight people provides for a pretty cool raid setting. With a larger amount of people attempting the content in the same raid group I think it will start to water down the fights just a bit. There may be more moving parts but each part will be a bit easier to grasp I feel. I think it would undoubtedly have to happen this way or there is just too much opportunity for someone to screw up and wipe the raid. I think you can make the fights a lot tighter with eight people than you can with say twelve.
I guess we will see what square decides.

Personally, I would like to see a separate raid for 24 people. This would allow bigger FC groupings and allow the FC to become tighter. As it is currently constructed, you really only need a 8 man FC to clear all the content in the game and it kind of creates "clicks" within each FC. 20+ raid groups has worked before in numerous other MMO's and I don't see a reason why they couldn't implement something like that into this game.

The other thing I was thinking of today what they are going to do with crafting. The major problem that I saw with crafting was that there really aren't separate "classes" of crafter….its one crafter with the same cross class skills. You have the all the same abilities no matter what crafter you are on once everything is 50.

So for heavensward I wonder if they are going to do some kind of crafter specialization. I personally would like to bonuses to items if you have chosen a crafter specialty, like a CUL spec's food lasts longer; maybe a ARM has a bonus to gear durability. They have already be dabbling with specialization with desynth and I am predicting they are going to do something similar to crafting.

I like the idea of maybe two seperate raids. One with a larger number of people. I can't imagine having 24 people on TS at once for a raid.
Brings me back to the good ol Molten Core 40 person days! haha.

The thing about bigger raids is that there needs to be way more classes. Right now you can fit all but 2 jobs into coil. If the raid was 20 plus you are going to have a lot of duplicates and that's…kind of lame. As they add more classes I think raid size will expand to accommodate.
What the game really does needs to have content that FC's work on all together. Saving the money for housing was that way, and hopefully FC airship crafting will be cool.

The bigger the raid the better!

Nothing says MMO like an epic battle and victory

Raids can definitely be too big; I would say 20-25 people is the sweet spot. Big enough to get that epic feel, but small enough to feel like you are individually important.

Not to mention its hard enough getting 8 people on it seems

Yeah good luck with that scheduling haha.

I don't think scheduling would be that big of an issue with more people. You would be able to fill spots easier because job requirements wouldn't be so specific with larger numbers. We would obviously have to expand the FC though to ensure we have enough numbers for raids.
